World Description:

Sam is from the same world as Silas, Sam, however, is from further back in the timeline than Silas is. (1984) Abilities are government regulated, thanks to the Ecclesia becoming more and more ingrained in political entities. Families, like the Gudwgans, have gone into hiding. Members have changed their names and taken to hiding that they have abilities at all. Most of the other cults have been absorbed by the Ecclesia, save one which has taken to helping people who want to avoid the choices they have:

Those who have an ability have two choices. You can register your abilities, or you can have them supressed by either medication or by living near or with someone who has the ability to supress these things. Many people have chosen to have their abilities supressed, either out of fear of what it would mean to be registered or of what they have found they can do.

There are many people in this world who don't believe that what's happened to it has anything to do with the Trinity Tests, that it would have always happened to the world. That it's part of a degradation that will eventually burn the world up, and leave something new.

More and more people in the world are being born with negative abilities. The ability to cause pain. To cause war and sickness. To that end, there appears to be a plague rising up from Alamogordo. That said, with all the negative and awful in the world there are still places where people with abilities are finding that they have community: Lily Dale, Cassadega, Wonewoc, Sedona.

Silas and Sam would not interact and would have no reason to.

History:

Sam was not born in Lily Dale, but this is where he lived for at least part of his life. It's one of the few places that he's ever felt at home. Sam was born to an Air Force father who left the military when his mother died very soon after he was born. He grew up in the town of Land O’Lakes, Wisconsin, and no it has nothing to do with butter, thank you.

Sam was born with his abilities, just as his father Caleb was born with his. His father had the ability to manipulate the light, something that was probably very useful for an air force pilot. While he growing up, his father instilled in him certain religious beliefs:
  • The idea that all things will be ultimately reconciled to God, including demons, Satan and all that have been ‘damned’ to Hell.
  • Belief in apocastasis, which is the belief that the whole of creation and all of humanity will ultimately be 'restored' to their original state of bliss.
  • The belief that Hell exists, but it is neither a place of endless suffering nor a place where the spirits of human beings are ultimately 'annihilated' after enduring the just amount of divine retribution.
  • The belief in three types of mass extinction: Sashthrantha, extinction by war Durbhikshantha, extinction by hunger Rogantha, extinction by plague.
As a child, Sam was quiet and spent quite a lot of time alone. This is not to say he was outcast, just that he really liked to be on his own. To think. To make things grow. He didn't feel like he fit in where he grew up, so he didn't see any reason to try very hard at forcing it.

After high school, he did not go on to college. He and his father moved to Lily Dale, to a spiritualist community that had some like minded beliefs and other beliefs that Sam would take in and adapt to fit what he already believed in. He went to work at a greenhouse. Growing things like roses and lilacs and if he grows weed in the back of the greenhouse, that is his own business, isn’t it? At least it's a vaguely profitable one.

Personality:

Sam is almost excessively nice, to the point where he sometimes looks as if he's completely lost his mind to be so nice to people. It's not necessarily kindness so much as love. Love that he has for every single person he meets. It's not necessarily a romantic love, though that does happen. More...familial?

He doesn't really tend to get that angry at anyone, but when he does...well. When Sam loses his temper, he really loses his temper. It's basically a distressing experience for everyone around him and involved in whatever has set him off. Wrathful might be a good description of it.
"There is love, there is wrath. The world burns. The world ends. The world dies, and all there is is love."
That's a pretty good description in Sam's own words for his personality type. He either loves you or he hates you, and even when he hates you he still loves you. Even if he has to hurt you. Wrathfully.
Sam has dark hair, and is around average-ish height. He's got a super-serious case of Thought Face most of the time, and tends to dress like he robbed the clothesline of like 13 different people, and then also a vintage shop. Sometimes he smells very much like cherry blossoms and maple syrup.

Sam also seems to be pretty obsessed with waffles. So you know. Enjoy that.

Abilities? Sam has a few. He has the ability of agrokinesis, which means he can cause plants, trees, flowers and anything else that grows from the ground to well...grow. Anywhere. Speeding up the growth of plants that would be there already, or creating from nothing plants that would probably never grow in that place at all.

He can also take your pain into his own self for a limited amount of time. Physical pain, psychological pain. Depending on the injury, this may manifest wounds, it may not. It's a rather...distressing type of empathy, really. This ability requires touching the other person.

Both of Sam's abilities have a rather odd side effect in his mind, or rather to his memory. He doesn't lose memory so much as he gains them. Using his abilities opens his mind to past lives, meaning that he remembers more and more things he did in these past incarnations. Discussions of this ability with his father and others in the town he grew to call his home have given him the impression that he is a god of some sort, incarnated in human flesh. Whether he is right or not, that's not clear.

He is also a killer bunco player, and he'll be dragging anyone and everyone into that.

He has been in New Dodge before, but very few people that he knew are still here.

Why do you think your character would work in this setting?

As for why he would accept Eli's offer? Curiosity. About this concept of multiverse, about Eli's people, about the people that would come to this world. And he'd want to help.

How do you plan to expand their CR?

Sam is very social, and will probably put together game-nights and such things.

What will your character do for work?

He would, no doubt, want to work in the Greenhouse or on the farm. With agriculture, in some way.
